Marble papers where often used as book covers and end papers in 19th century. The paper had an overall practical purpose and the technique was also something people could do themselves. The paper was decorative and each sheet becomes a unique monotype. The paper could be seen as having a domestic and purely decorative purpose, but at the same time being one of a kind. The drawings are all copies of marble papers. They are copied from an original and the copy is also an original in its of way. Even the marble papers are copies, copying the type of stone, marble. The materials and their value differentiate. Suddenly the throw away, domesticated low value patterns used to create something else.
